Recently, there has  been  calls to  intensify  the need to put an end to the phenomenon of carrying  knife in the city of Nyala,  South Darfur.

Two people were killed and more than 10 others were wounded in separate stabbing incidents on Thursday and Friday in the city of Nyala.

Magdi Zaki, 18, who was studying in the first year at the university, died last night after being stabbed nine times in different parts of his body  by a group of youngsters.

Father of the deceased told  “Darfur 24”  that the incident occurred in the “Dream Village” park In the city center, he added  that a case  had been filed against the criminals  , but  the perpetrators had not been identified yet.

Eye witness, Adam Hassan, who arrived at Nyala Teaching Hospital after the incident, said that there were at least 11 people drawn from various neighborhoods of Nyala city   with stabbing wounds.

 

Details of the “Dream Park” incident, is that relatives of the family who had invited pepple for a  wedding party at dream park, found one of their children stabbed near the wedding cermony  site, so,   without identifying the person who stabbed their son , they took revenge by randomly  stabbing  more than 7 people, causing a state of panic and stampede.

While the young man, Adam was stabbed by  twice , one in the neck and the other in the abdomen, when two people threatened him while he was returning  from a store adjacent to their home in the neighborhood of Al-Thawra in Nyala. Most of the stabbing incidents occur on wedding occasions in the city that take place on Thursdays and Fridays.  The director general of  Nyala Teaching Hospital, Dr. Abdul Rahim Al-Khalifa, said that the statistics of stabbing incidents  increased dramatically recently in the city of Nyala, and mentioned that the emergency and incident section  received on Thursday and Friday only 8 Cases of stabbing and two cases of gunshot wound, all of which occurred in the neighborhoods of the city of Nyala, and showed that all of those injured in these accidents are young people under the age of 20.  The doctor added that  most of  these incidents always occur at night hours, and he cautioned that most of the injured who arrive at the hospital are intoxicated and commit crimes under influence of alcohol.

Darfur24 has learned from sources close to the Nyala municipality government that the latter discussed with the Commissioner  of South Darfur state police ,the increasing phenomenon of carrying a knife and stabbing incidents in the city of Nyala. But it became clear to the municipality that the police forces were unable to intervene, and the sources said, the local executive director reminded them that the municipal government  is very concerned about this issue, but the problem is that the police have not been given sufficient powers to intervene to resolve this issue
