April 8, 2020 (Elfashir) Authorities of Shala Federal Prison in North Darfur have released  204 prisoners as part of the government  precautionary measures to prevent the spread of Corona virus in the country.

The  inmates who were set free on Wedenesday , had  been  arrested by Rapid Support Forces   RSF in the desert while  illegally  trying to cross the Sudanese boarder.

The release comes after hundreds of prison inmates went on a  hunger strike to protest against delay of their release, in accordance with the directives  of the President of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.

The Governor of North Darfur, Major General Malik Al-Tayeb Khojali, said in a press statement after inspecting the prison, that the state government had decided on Wednesday to release 204 of the convicted inmates  who were arrested while trying to cross  the Sudanese-Libyan borders.

” They were on their way to join  forces of retired General Khalifa Hifter who is fighting the legitimate government in Tripoli” concluded Major General Malik Al-Tayeb Khojali.

The governor also  revealed arrangements made by the government to release at least 400 other inmates of the public right  during the next two days, including women and children.
