Two journalists in North Darfur(Aida Ahmed Abdel Qader, and Lina Awad
Hassan Sabeel)  have  disclosed  for the first time, details of an
attempt of their pursuit  by a member of the Military Intelligence
inside the city of El Fasher, North Darfur.

The  female journalists said   their chasing started on Friday and
lasted for three days, as they published reports reflecting the health
situation and the increase in the number of mysterious deaths among
the elderly inside the city of El Fasher.

The issue prompted the Director General of Health, Dr. Suleiman Idris,
to post  audio recording on social app WhatsApp questioning the
reporters’ affiliation the local media office.

According to a scientific study conducted by Al-Fasher University, the
statistics of mysterious deaths among the city’s elderly people
exceeded 150 deaths during the 3 weeks, at a time when the scientific
community favors the causes of deaths to the spread of the Corona
pandemic in the city.

Director General issued a statement that was broadcast on local radio,
denying what was reported in the newspaper, which dealt with
information about the health situation and the spread of the
Coronavirus.

For her parts,  journalist ,Lana Awad, told to Darfur 24 that she had
received threats via several phone calls from a  member of the
Military Intelligence with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel called Abdel
Baqi on Friday and Saturday, stating that the officer asked her to
appear before him at the headquarters of the Intelligence Division,
but she refused.

When I refused to appear before them, he said to me , “If you do not
come , we have our own methods that we use to compel you to come to
the military buildings.” The journalist said.

reporter Aida Abdel Qader, said that their pursuit by the military
started on Sunday at exactly nine and a half in the morning, when they
moved to Al-Fashir market where they were intercepted in the middle of
the market by an intelligence personnel wearing a civilian clothes,
who identified himself as an officer with the rank of first lieutenant
called Musab before ordering them to move with him to the intelligence
offices.

However, due to the mysterious deaths that have happened  in the city
of El Fasher, North Darfur, the federal government had sent a
highlevel delegation headed by Minister of Cabinet Affairs Omar
Manynis and the undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health to
find out in the field the reality of the health situation in the
state.
