October 27, 2020 (Nyala) Sessions of the reconciliation conference between Fallata and Masalit tribes began Tuesday in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, against the backdrop of the fighting that took place between the two tribes in recent days.

According to the speakers of the two delegations at the opening session of the conference, attacks are still continuing between the two warring parties.

Since last August, the areas of Gereida have witnessed mutual attacks between the Fallata and Masalit tribes, in which scores of people were killed on both sides and some villages were burned.

Last Thursday, the Governor of South Darfur, Musa Mahdi, accompanied by the leaders of the government forces, visited Gereida locality to find out the damages caused by the attack on the city of Gereida.

During his vist, the governor sat with the leaders of the two tribes and decided to hold a reconciliation conference between the two tribes to end the fighting between them, under the supervision of the second Rapid Support Commander, Lieutenant General Abdel Rahim Dagalo.

Speaking at the opening session, representative of the Masalit tribe, Ibrahim Abaker Bush described what happened between the two tribes as a burden of failure that this generation continues to carry, but he stressed that they have resolved not to bequeath it to future generations.

He added that Masalit tribe is still adhering to the document to stop the hostilities that occurred between them and the Fallatah last August, and that they came to the conference with open hearts to overcome the conflict with the Fallatah tribe.

For his part, representative of the Fallatah tribe, Muhammad Musa al-Tom, said that they came seeking a peace that would achieve security and peace in the region, calling on state government to extend the conference period to address the root causes of conflict between the two sides.
