November 26, 2020 -Supporters of the chairman of the Sudanese Revolutionary Awakening Council RAC, the leader of the Mahamid clan, Musa Hilal, have organized protest rallies in a number of Sudanese cities to demand his release.

However, Hilal, some of his relatives and a handful members of the SRAC, have been in detention since 2017.

The rallies which took place in Nyala, Al Fasher, Al Geneina, Al Daein, and Matsarahah coincided with the fourth anniversary of the events of Mistarahah suburb, the birthplace of Hilal, which led to the killing a number of the people of the area and the arrest of Hila and a number of his sons.

According to the organizers of the marches, they are in the process of handing the Public Prosecution a memorandum demanding the enforcement of the rule of law of the law and the release of detainees without conditions out of respect for the sovereignty of the state.

The angry protesters also called for an end to the ongoing prosecutions outside the framework of the law which target the affiliates of Muhammad clan.

Mustafa Muhammad Ibrahim, a member of the Higher Coordination of Mahamid in South Darfur, said that they were unable to hand over the memorandum to the Public Prosecution because of the strike by the Public Prosecution staff, and explained that the protest marches demanded the release of Hilal and his companions.
“The detainees from the sons of Mahamid are facing a military trial that does not meet the conditions of military courts according to the crimes directed against them, but rather is one of the jurisdiction of the civil judiciary” Musrafa added .
