The Security Committee of South Darfur State said that the security services were able to recover 90% of the holdings and assets that were looted from the headquarters of the African Union and United Nations Mission in Darfur UNAMID in the Manwashi area, 74 km north of the state capital Nyala.

Darfur 24 learned that the government forces fired live pots to prevent the citizens from looting the compound , which led to the wounding of 7 people, one of them was seriously injured, and he was transferred  to hospitals in Nyala city for treatment.

Speaking at a press conference, South Darfur police commissioner, said that  a number of citizens had been arrested at the backdrop of the former UNAMID’s premises looting and vandalism

Deputy governor of South Darfur, Hamid Hanoun said after an emergency meeting of the state security committee that the mission’s premises  which the government took over on February 24th  was subjected to looting by what he described as “weak souls” from the cities of Mershing and Manawashi.

Hanoun confirmed that the joint forces sent by the state government returned the looted items to the camp by more than 90%, and that the situation was under control.
