Interior Minister Lieutenant General Ezz El-Din Al-Sheikh has directed South Darfur police to intensify their work to arrest outlaws who threaten the lives of internally  displaced people IDPs and bring them to justice.

Addressing IDPs of El Sereef camp, 7 km west of the city of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, on Thursday, the minister said  his tour to the states of Darfur came with the aim of reassuring the protection of civilians in Darfur.

He added, “We have come to talk with state governments that the central government is interested in peace and the protection of civilians.”

The minister of interior is currently  embarking on a visit to Darfur States, the first for the Minister of the Interior after the departure of the peacekeeping mission from the war-torn region.  Al-Sheikh directed the police departments in the states of Darfur to recruit displaced women into the police to help protect women in the camps.

He also directed the opening of civil registry units in the camps to obtain identification papers ( national number, birth certificate) for the displaced people in the IDP camps.

“The peace boat has set off and there is nothing to stop it” he further added .
