Darfur 24- Khartoum

Sudan’s Security and Defense Council has decided to dispatch  joint national  forces, consisting of  Sudanese armed forces and  the signatory movements to maintain security and peace  in Darfur region.

 

However,  Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, presided over an   emergency meeting  of the Defense and Security Council at the Republican Palace Saturday , to discuss the security situation in the country, in general  and the latest developments in the states of West and East Darfur in particular.

The decision to hold a meeting of the Sudanese Security and Defense Council came against the backdrop of the recent escalation of sectarian violence in West Darfur between the Arabs and Masalit tribes, in which more than 100 people were killed and dozens were injured.  The meeting recommended activating the procedures for collecting weapons and taking the necessary measures to prevent the manifestations of armed presence in the cities and to expedite the completion of the requirements of implementing the security arrangements for the Juba Peace Agreement for Sudan as well as monitoring  the borders to prevent the flow  weapons.

The Council also decided to expedite the provision of humanitarian aid to those affected by the latest tribal violence in west Darfur ,  as well as  bringing   perpetrators to  a  just  and immediate trials..
