Community leaders from Shangel Tobaye area 74 kms south of Elfasher, have accused the government forces who were tasked with the protection of UNAMID premises of taking the lead in looting and vandalizing the compound.
However. yesterday morning, the forces started shooting in the air to stop the citizens from entering the compound , killing three people and wounding dozens.
One of the local leaders in the area, Mayor Adam Tajer, told Darfur 24 that the looting of equipment began on Friday morning by the guard forces late at night. He explained that the equipment that was stolen by the guard forces consisted of refrigerators, air conditioners, display screens and solar panels.
The governor of the Darfur region and the head of the Sudan Liberation Movement Minni Arko Minawi considered the transfer of the equipment of the UNAMID in Darfur to Khartoum a crime, saying in a tweet that the transfer of UNAMID equipment to Khartoum is a crime that cannot be tolerated and that it is carried out with premeditation and surveillance.
