August 12, 2021 (Khartoum) The New Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court ICC  Karim Khan, has asked the Sudanese government to expedite the opening of an office for the court in Khartoum.

Adviser to the Sudanese Prime Minister Omar Qamaruddin said, in a press statement after Karim Khan’s meeting with the Prime Minister, that the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court had requested the Prime Minister that the government should expedite the steps to open an office for the ICC in the country.

For his part, Prime Minister Dr. Abdallah Hamdok affirmed the government’s commitment to achieving justice as one of the slogans of the glorious December revolution, adding in this regard that “Sudan’s commitment to achieving justice is not only a matter of international obligations, but rather comes in response to popular demands for the establishment of justice and the implementation of the glorious slogans of the revolution.”

Hamdok indicated that the visit of the delegation of the Criminal Court is a testimony to the change brought about by comprehensive reform processes in the new Sudan.

Qamar El-Din said that the Prime Minister made it clear to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court that the Government of Sudan will fully cooperate with the Hague based Court , and that Sudan is about to sign and ratify the Rome Statute soon.
