August 30, 2021 (Nyala) Internally displaced people IDPs in Darfur have called on  the transitional government to expedite the handing over of those accused of war crimes and genocide in Darfur to the International Criminal Court ICC.

Speaking at the conclusion of the workshop on transitional justice and the mechanisms of the International Criminal Court, organized by the Sawa Sawa organization with the support of the American  Freedom House, on Sunday and Monday, IDPs representative  said  that handing over the suspects  to the  ICC  would  give the displaced people  relative confidence in the transitional government.

Head of the General Coordination of Displaced Persons and Refugees in Darfur, Yaqoub Mohamed Abdullah, said that the government should expedite the handover of the accused to the Criminal Court if it wants Sudan to recover and things go well.

The workshop targeted 70 participants from the leaders of IDP camps drawn from the five states of Darfur.

Addressing participants, workshop coordinator, lawyer Jamal Adam Musa, said that two papers were presented at  workshop that dealt with transitional justice and the mechanisms of the International Criminal Court to achieve justice, in addition to the procedures that took place regarding the trial Ali Kushayb.

Musa stated that the workshop aimed at listening  to victims’ viewpoints on the  accused, those arrested at the International Criminal Court and those detained in Sudanese jails.
