September 8, 2021 The United Nations revealed, on Tuesday, the occurrence of new battles between regular forces and the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahed Mohamed Nour, which led to the displacement of more than a thousand people.

 

According to the Sudan Tribune news website, the Secretary-General of the United Nations briefed the UN Security Council on September 1, on the developments in the situation in Sudan during the period from May 2 to August 20, 2021.

It is expected that the UN Security Council will discuss the same report in a session on the fourteenth of this month.

The report, obtained by the Sudan Tribune, said on Tuesday; A clash occurred between members of the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdel Wahed Mohamed Nour, due to tensions over access to lands in the Fanga market, north of Jebel Marra, which led to the displacement of 1,284 people.

He pointed out that another clash took place between the army and elements of the Sudan Liberation Movement in the period from 11-18 last July in the Sortony area, which led to the death of 5 displaced people, and that the movement’s fighters withdrew from the area immediately after the army sent military reinforcements.

The Sudan Liberation Movement refused to engage in negotiations with the transitional government to end the war in the Darfur region, proposing the establishment of a peace conference inside the country, but it has not officially announced its initiative so far.

The report revealed the occurrence of military confrontations between the factions of the Sudan Liberation Movement over issues related to command and control of certain areas, and another clash erupted between the Qaddoura faction and the Mubarak al-Duk faction on July 24, which led to the flight of an unlimited number of civilians from the Fara and Komi areas to the Sabanga site.
