El-Geneina,June 6(Darfue24)The human tragedy caused by the attack launched by armed men on Karinak locality, 80 kilometers east of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, created  tragedy that is difficult to describe in light of the lack of shelter and food for families who lost more than two hundred loved ones  and dozens of wounded, and burning, looting and destroying hundreds of homes.

Karinak, whose name became the most popular name for West Darfur localities in the media after that masscre , is considered the only locality among the eight West Darfur localities that do not have a
border with neighboring Chad, and it consists of five administrative units: “Azerni, Umm Tjouk, Karinak, Morni, beside Qadarni unit .

Although it is considered the largest locality in terms of area, it ranks fourth among the localities of West Darfur in terms of economic importance, perhaps because it does not share a border strip with
neighboring Chad, where border trade and smuggling are active.

The attack that Karenke witnessed was the most violent in West Darfur in the midst of wars and security incidents in several regions in the past three years.

Administrative units are considered an important center for some social components, and they were divided according to the tribal distribution, according to the divisive policies that the former
regime was following to control tribal influence.

The administrative unit “Krink” and its neighboring villages were the scene of the last war, and the Masalit tribe is considered one of the largest social components within the Karinak administrative unit,
while Umm Tjok is considered a center for the Mahadi tribe of Arab origins, and Qandari is a center for the Tama tribe, while there is “Azerni” the Masalit tribe, inhabiting The “Murni” unit adjacent to
the state of Central Darfur has a number of population groups, but the Masalit tribe is superior to it in terms of numbers, while the “villages, Dummar and Furqan” of the Arab tribes are scattered in separate areas within the geographical borders of Karinak locality.

Most of the residents of Kerenk are skilled in farming and grazing, and the area is characterized by fertile agricultural lands, and it produces fruits such as guava, fava, mango and cantaloupe. The night
before the 22nd of April was quiet on the city of Karinak only, tinged with the general caution that West Darfur State has been experiencing for years due to the repeated fighting in it, but the situation turned
upside down with the crack of dawn, when armed men launched an attack at five in the morning ,they attacked Krink from several axes, against the background of the killing of two herders near the city, turning it to ashes and inanimate objects.

At the time, official accounts and statistics about the number of victims varied, while the governor, Abdullah Abkar, stated that the death toll had reached 201, while the executive director of Karenak locality, Nasser Al-Zein, said that the local security committee had counted 165 dead. And that attack left tragic humanitarian conditions until the area became a destination for humanitarian organizations and
bodies.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid in West Darfur State, Al-Sadiq Muhammad Harun, said that the state government sent a food convoy last week to the Karinak area, which was distributed to more than 21
thousand families.

He pointed out that the distributed foodstuffs suffice the residents for one month only, and he warned of the urgent need for shelter materials, as the citizens’ homes were greatly affected by the attack
on the area.

The citizens of Karenak did not wake up from the horror of the catastrophe that lost them dearly, until a struggle for influence and control emerged among the leaders of the region, which prompted the
security authorities to arrest four young men, some of whom were leaders in an armed movement that still did not join the peace, and according to an official government source, the authorities accused
them of fueling The fire of strife and wars in the region. Although more than 50 days have passed since the Karenak events that completely destroyed the city, which the governor of West Darfur, Khamis
Abdullah, described as a crime against humanity and religion, the investigation committee formed by the state government did not disclose the results of its investigation, and the governor also did
not meet to hold the press conference. In which he pledged to clarify all the circumstances of the attack and reveal the parties involved in it.

The governor of West Darfur, Khamis Abdullah, said in a statement after the attack that he would reveal to the public opinion the parties involved in the attack.

While the living conditions are still getting worse day by day, despite the arrival of dozens of convoys from the states, in addition to the entry of a large number of foreign and national organizations
to provide aid to the people of the region,
