El-Fashir, June 6(Darfur240 Two children  a girl and a boy  died of
starvation in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State in western
Sudan.

On Monday, health reports confirmed the death of two children, a boy
and a girl, at the age of seven and five as a result of a lack of food
in the Abu Shouk neighborhood of El Fasher city.

On Saturday evening, Darfur 24 correspondent observed two children
lying in front of their house, amid a heavy security presence, before
the police arrested the children’s parents and a number of their
neighbors in the neighborhood.

One of the neighbors, after he and others were released ,told Darfur
24 on Monday  that the authorities released them and kept the parents
of the two children after health reports proved that the two children
died due to lack of food.

Meanwhile, doctors at El Fasher Hospital confirmed to Darfur 24 that
the two children showed symptoms of “wasting” disease when they
examined them, and that they died as a result, a disease caused by a
lack of nutrients in the body.

North Darfur state suffers from exacerbating food insecurity,
according to the report of the results of the post-harvest
agricultural survey conducted by the Agricultural Planning Department
in cooperation with the Food Security Group, including “FAO” before it
was approved by the North Darfur state government last March.
