El-Fashir, July 5(Darfur24) A delegation from the US Congress arrived in El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, on an official visit this Tuesday morning.

 

The US delegation is headed by Congressman Norma Torres and Sarah Jacobs, accompanied by members of the United States Mission to the United Nations.

 

A government official in the North Darfur state told Darfur 24 that the delegation arrived in El Fasher to get acquainted with  the situation in Darfur, including setting a general vision for formulating programs to support the government’s efforts in the field of peacekeeping and peace building.

 

The official indicated that the delegation also met with United Nations agencies, before visiting an exhibition at the Agricultural Research Center.

 

 

 

After returning to Khartoum, the delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with the United Nations Integrated Transitional Assistance Mission in Sudan UNITAMS as well as meet with a wide range of actors from political parties, NGOs and civil society to get a better understanding of the work of the United Nations in Sudan, including its support for the process political and humanitarian assistance, as well as how the United States and the United Nations are working together to support the Sudanese people.
