Khartoum, August 28(Darfur24) The driver of a truck loaded with aid belonging to the World Food Organization  nWFP was injured as a result of being shot at by armed men in civilian clothes in Zamzam IDP camp 15 km southwest of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.

 

Truck driver, Alaa El-Din Adam Hassan told Darfur 24 that he was coming from El Obeid city in central Sudan, driving a truck loaded with relief supplies belonging to the World Food Organization, heading to the camps for the displaced people  in Tawila locality ,when his vehicle was shot at.

He added: “When we crossed the Zamzam camp, we were stopped by armed men in civilian clothes. I tried to get off the truck to talk to them, but I was surprised when one of the gunmen fired at me, caused my injury”. He stated that he was taken to Al-Fasher Teaching Hospital for treatment.

 

Meanwhile, a security official in North Darfur confirmed the incident and accused the protesters in Zamzam camp of being involved in the incident, and stated that the sit-in in Zamzam is not peaceful and exacerbates the situation in the state.

Zamzam camp for displaced people has been witnessing an open sit-in for ten days in protest against the security instability in the camp and its surroundings.

However, the  protesters are calling on the state government to meet a package of demands, including providing security and arresting the perpetrators of the incidents in the village of Umm Hashab
