El-Geineina , March 7(Darfur24) Prominent civil community leaders in West Darfur state, on Wednesday, accused the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM)of obstructing the Peaceful Coexistence Conference scheduled to be held in the coming days in the “Abusrug” area in “Sirba” locality, against the backdrop of security tensions taking place in the region.

The Abu Suruj administrative region of Sirba locality, 80 km north of El Geneina, is witnessing security tensions between the tribal components against the backdrop of murders and thefts committed by armed movements, according to residents’ accusations.

Civil leaders confirmed to “Darfur 24” that a conference for peaceful coexistence that was scheduled to be held in the coming days in the “Abusrug” region was postponed for further consultation after civil leaders received death threats.

The leader of the “Aranga” tribe, Zakaria Khater, told “Darfur 24” that there are parties seeking to destabilize security and stability in the “Abusruj” region, which caused the conference to be postponed for further consultation, explaining that a number of civil leaders received death threats via communications from Port Sudan if they continued Continue making peace with the Arab tribes.”

He pointed out that there were three civil leaders who were forced to leave the “Abusrouj” area for refugee camps for fear of their safety.

For his part, the Emir of the “Aranga” tribe, Azhari Ahmed Al-Senussi, said that there are other parties involved in the “Abusrouj” problem, accusing prominent leaders in the Justice and Equality Movement, led by Jibril Ibrahim, of being behind the threat to the leaders of the “Aranga” tribe.

At the same level, one of the princes of the Arab tribes, Prince Issa Naeem Daqdaq, told “Darfur 24” that the Arab tribes and the “Aranga” tribe do not have any differences between them, accusing, in turn, parties with a political agenda of seeking strife between them.

He added, “The Abusrouj area became the Arnqa tribe powerless after armed parties entered the area and imposed their authorities on them,” noting that the armed parties took control of “AbuSrouj” and were targeting nomadic people and stealing livestock to drag the Arabs into war.

He said: “In just three months, 35 incidents of livestock theft were reported, after which the trail of the perpetrators entered the Abu Suraj area, confirming their complete commitment to self-restraint and not listening to the provocations that are working to drag them into a tribal war until the Peaceful Coexistence Conference is held.”

In turn, the designated governor of West Darfur, Tjani Al-Tahir Karshoum, accused some Darfur movements of deviating from the revolutionary line, and added, “It is unfortunate that these movements, from their headquarters in Port Sudan, are seeking to ignite a tribal war in a remote area that will increase the suffering of citizens and produce a bitter humanitarian reality.”

He stressed that his government has been working for three months to spare the Abu Ruj region from war, and will continue its efforts with peace advocates to achieve peaceful coexistence among all social components in the region.

He called on the leaders of the Aranga tribe to hold an inclusive intellectual forum in which all the people of the region would participate to put an end to the activity of militants who are working to ignite tribal war.

On his part, the leader of the Justice and Equality Movement, Dr. Muhammad Youssef Dabbab, denied in statements to “Darfur 24” that his movement was involved in thwarting a conference for peaceful coexistence in West Darfur.

He added that Justice and Equality has no interest in thwarting a conference for peaceful coexistence between social components, noting that no party has the right to control the decision of the Aranga tribe.
