November 28, Nairobi — In just two days earlier this week, 70 families were displaced from El Fasher, capital of North Darfur, the United Nations said, as clashes continue between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In the Jebel Marra in Central Darfur, sources told Darfur24 that they have received over 120 families from El Fasher, mostly women and children. They are arriving in dire conditions.

Since April, more than 400,000 have been displaced by the violence in El Fasher. The RSF continues to try and takeover the city, one of the remaining SAF strongholds in the region. In the last two months, they have mobilized fighters from states across Darfur to come and fight in El Fasher. Recent reports have indicated that the city could fall to the RSF at any time.

Since April 2023, the two warring parties in El Fasher have fought over 145 battles. Now, sources told Darfur24, all axis of El Fasher have become an open battlefield and the SAF have been fighting heavily to stop the RSF from taking over.

On Wednesday, the UN said that El Fasher is still under siege and inaccessible. There are a limited number of humanitarian partners are on the ground. On Tuesday, the Sudanese government accused the RSF of looting a World Food Program aid truck carrying 7,000 metric tons of food for thousands of people in North Darfur.

“This act is intended to starve civilians, impoverish them and leave them vulnerable to hunger, malnutrition and terror,” the Humanitarian Aid Commission said in a statement.

Those remaining in El Fasher have been forced to eat animal food to stay alive, sources told Darfur24 earlier this week.
