January 30, 2025 Nyala – Darfur24 Local residents in the town of Manawashi, about 78 km northeast of Nyala, the Capital of South Darfur, confirmed on Thursday the death of 4 people and the injury of 2 others following an airstrike by the Sudanese Army on the town.
Suleiman Ibrahim, a local leader in Manawashi, told “Darfur24” that an Antonov warplane launched airstrikes with three shells on the eastern market of the town and Al-Salam neighborhood, resulting in 4 casualties from one family, including a child, and injuring two others who were taken to the health center.
He confirmed that this is the first time the town has been subjected to an airstrike since the war began in April 2023, causing panic and fear among the residents and leading them to flee to nearby forests.
He pointed out that there is a small presence of RSF forces in the town, working to secure the area and patrol the road linking Nyala and El-Fasher.
RSF took control of the 61st Infantry Brigade Command in Manawashi, part of the 16th Infantry Division in Nyala, in June 2023.
