January 30, 2025 El-Fasher: Darfur24 Hundreds of families fleeing from the areas of “Golo and Shagra” west of El-Fasher are facing harsh conditions as they live in the open under trees amid a shortage of food and medicine. They fled from areas entered by RSF after encircling El-Fasher from the west.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the entry of RSF into “Golo and Shagra” caused the majority of population to flee to “Saluma and Um-Gidaibu” seeking safety.

Fleeing residents from “Shagra and Golo” told “Darfur24” that the attacks by RSF forces stationed in the area these days have driven hundreds of families to flee their homes.

“Um-Zaina Ali,” a housewife, said, “I fled with my children from the village of Hilla-Abubakr, and now we live in the open at ‘Wadi Shagra’ under the trees for five days without shelter or food.”

She added that RSF prevented mill owners in Shagra from doing their work, forcing families to rely on “green beans and lentils” for food.

Abakar Adam Musa, a displaced person from the village of “Abu-Dabisa,” told “Darfur24” that RSF looted agricultural crops and household items like blankets, noting that the fleeing families are suffering from hunger and cold in the complete absence of shelter tents.

He indicated to a frightening spread of infections among the displaced, especially children and the elderly.

A member of Shagra Emergency Room, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed to “Darfur24” the severe deterioration of the humanitarian situation among the fleeing people in Wadi Shagra, Saluma, and Um-Jamaina, which host hundreds of families fleeing from Zamzam camp 12 km west of El-Fasher, after recent displacement due to RSF artillery shelling since early December.

She noted that insecurity and poor humanitarian conditions have forced some families to return to Zamzam camp again.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced today the displacement of 3,960 families from the rural areas west of El-Fasher due to RSF attacks on Friday and Saturday.
