Al-Fasher, February 8(Darfur24)

The United Nations World Food Program launched, on Friday, the online electronic registration process for the residents of the states of South and West Kordofan and North and South Darfur, in preparation for providing cash assistance to families.

The United Nations says that the Darfur region is facing a horrific humanitarian crisis, with 79% of its population in need of humanitarian assistance and protection.

The program said, in a tweet via the “X” platform, which “Darfur24” viewed, that “it will begin providing assistance to those in South and West Kordofan and North and South Darfur, starting from February 7 until February 20.”

It called on residents to register via the electronic link it attached to the tweet, noting the necessity of having an account in the Bank of Khartoum for the head of the household or a trusted family member.

The program noted the necessity of providing the head of the household’s identity document number or the correct name and the identity number of a family member. The program also recommended opening an account for the head of the household in the event that there is no bank account.

The program stipulated that cash assistance be obtained only if accurate information was provided, stressing that it would give priority to the most needy families due to the limited resources.
