The Rapid Support Forces(RSF) in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, shot down a Sudanese army warplane in the early hours of Monday morning.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur24 that an “Antiov” plane over Nyala, at 5:15 a.m., before being shot down by a single missile in the northeastern part of the city.

The eyewitnesses reported that the Rapid Support Forces fired anti-aircraft missiles intensively, which resulted in the plane being shot down less than three minutes after it had dropped a bomb at Nyala International Airport.

A number of citizens fired bullets heavily in various parts of the city in jubilation of the plane being shot down after seeing it burning in the city’s sky.

Dozens of Nyala residents headed early in the morning to the site of the wreckage of the burning plane in the Al-Mustaqbal neighborhood, north of Nyala.

In the same context, the Rapid Support Forces said in a statement obtained by Darfur 24 that the Air Defense Forces shot down an Ilyushin military aircraft over the skies of Nyala, and the aircraft burned with its entire crew and its wreckage was scattered in the Al-Mustaqbal neighborhood.

It confirmed that it would confront any military aircraft belonging to the army that tried to bomb civilians in Nyala.

This is the second time that the Rapid Support Forces have shot down a warplane in Nyala since the outbreak of the war, the first one was shot down back in. September 2023.
