Al Daein, May 7(Darfur24)
The Sudanese Relief and Humanitarian Aid Agency in East Darfur State announced on Tuesday arrival of a large humanitarian aid convoy provided by the World Food Programme (WFP) that arrived in Al Daein via the Adre Crossing.
Jamal Al-Zein, Director of the Sudanese Relief and Humanitarian Operations Agency in East Darfur State, said in a press statement that the state has received 3,000 families recently displaced from cities in the central part of the country. They are scattered across the state’s nine localities and are in urgent need of assistance, shelter, food, and medicine.
The agency director appealed to the World Food Programme (WFP) to urgently intervene to rescue these displaced people, who have not received any assistance and are still flowing into the state.
Jamal added that the humanitarian aid shipments arrived after many months, and the agency director pledged to facilitate the delivery procedures to the various localities and transport them through WFP partners for direct delivery to the targeted population.
The humanitarian aid shipments contain basic relief supplies such as corn, sorghum, and table salt, targeting large segments of the local population, internally displaced persons, and refugees from South Sudan.
