Al Daein: Darfur24

An armed group in an armored vehicle abducted Bashara Al Sharif Ismail, director of the SODO organization, yesterday, Monday, from inside Al Daein, the capital of East Darfur State, according to eyewitnesses.

Witnesses said the kidnapping occurred Monday morning while the director of the organization was on his way to work. An armed vehicle intercepted him, and the gunmen took him to an unknown destination.

Sources confirmed to Darfur24 that the captors demanded a ransom of 150 million Sudanese pounds from the victim’s family in exchange for his release.

Since last March, the phenomenon of abduction has become common in Al Daein and other areas of East Darfur, with abductees targeting market traders and a prominent doctor in Al Daein.

This comes despite the activation by the civil administration of East Darfur State of the role of the federal police in an effort to combat crime and establish security.
