Khartoum, May 21(Darfur 24)

The official spokesman for the Sudanese Army, Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah, announced on Tuesday that it has fully taken control of the entire state of Khartoum and that it is now free of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which had controlled large parts of it for the past two years.

The Sudanese Army’s complete control of Khartoum State on Tuesday comes after the RSF was expelled from its last strongholds in areas south of Omdurman, which the Army recaptured after more than two years.

Nabil Abdullah said in a statement, “We announce today the complete “cleansing” of the entire state of Khartoum of any presence of the RSF, and that the capital is completely free of rebels.”

The war between the Sudanese Army and the RSF has entered its third year, while more than ten million people have fled their homes, amid a deteriorating humanitarian situation for the population following the destruction of infrastructure.
