ElNuhood,May 22( Darfur24)The United Nations Displacement Tracking Matrix announced on Thursday that more than 46,000 people have been displaced from the towns of ElNuhood and El-Khawi in West Kordofan State, as a result of recent clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)in the area.

RSF took control of the town of Nahud on May 2, while two weeks ago, violent clashes erupted between the Sudanese army and the joint force of Darfur movements in El-Khawi, amid ongoing displacement from both towns.

The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) said in a statement on Thursday that its field monitoring teams estimated the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Al-Khawi and Al-Nahud localities in West Kordofan State at approximately 46,840 individuals (equivalent to 9,367 families) as of May 21, 2025.

It indicated that the displacement was a result of the deteriorating security situation in the region, indicating that a large number of these IDPs were previously displaced and are now facing secondary displacement.

Clashes between RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces in the city of El-Nuhood in early May led to the displacement of an estimated 35,000 individuals (6,999 families), according to the statement.

It explained that the majority of the IDPs (approximately 66%, or 23,105 individuals) remained within El-Nuhood locality, while others were displaced to neighboring localities, including Ghubaysh (16%), Al-Adiya (6%), and Wad Banda (6%), in addition to other areas.

On May 2, 2025, clashes in Al-Khawi town displaced an estimated 11,840 individuals (2,368 families). Ninety-three percent of these people (approximately 10,910 individuals) were displaced within the same locality, while others fled to West Bara and Shikan localities in North Kordofan state, according to the Displacement Tracking Matrix.
