El Obeid, June 5(Darfur 24)
Security authorities in the Sudanese army-controlled city of El Obeid have arrested dozens of people fleeing the military conflict in South Kordofan, particularly the Dabaibat area, which has witnessed fierce military battles in recent days.
One of the detained Civilians told Darfur 24 that the security cell in El Obeid, which comprises members of the security services, police, and joint forces, in addition to military intelligence, carries out daily arrest campaigns targeting those arriving from displacement areas, particularly from the city of Dabaibat and the locality of Al-Qouz.
The Debaibat and Al-Hammadi areas in South Kordofan, Al-Khawi in West Kordofan, and neighboring areas have witnessed an escalation in clashes since the beginning of last May.
He added, “On the second day of my arrival in El Obeid, on June 1, a force from the security cell arrested me and took me to an unknown location. “I wasn’t charged with anything. I was simply asked where I came from. When they learned I was from Al-Qoz, the harsh treatment began immediately.”
The displaced person, whose name we are withholding for security reasons, stated that “more than 50 people were arrested that same day. Some remain in detention to this day, while others were released after days of arbitrary detention.”
He said that the arrests are carried out randomly, targeting people coming from any village or area in Al-Qoz locality. He continued, “The procedures often begin with beatings and the inspection of mobile phones, as security forces search for any content that could be used as a pretext for detention or investigation.”
He pointed out that most of those arrested are young men fleeing areas of military operations are beaten, insulted , and sometimes shoot with bullets if they do not promptly comply with the orders of the joint forces, he said.
These campaigns come after the displacement of thousands of residents of the town of Al-Dubaibat and neighboring villages in Al-Qoz locality in South Kordofan, as a result of clashes that erupted between The army and Rapid Support Forces late last week.
The International Organization for Migration said that 1,821 families were displaced from the town of Dabaibat on May 29, 2025, due to ongoing armed clashes that spread to civilian areas.
