Tawila , July 4(Darfur 24)
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has begun distributing financial and in-kind assistance to those forced to return to the Tabara area, northeast of Jebel Marra in North Darfur State, following months of war and a siege imposed on El Fasher by the Rapid Support Forces.
According to a source from IRC, who preferred to remain anonymous, the organization has conducted a field survey, which has so far included seven of the eleven villages, to identify the displaced who have returned to their areas of origin. He added that the team will complete the survey early next week, after which the actual delivery of aid will begin.
The source explained that this aid aims to meet the basic needs of the returnees amid the dire humanitarian conditions, in addition to supporting them in participating in the imminent agricultural season. The aid includes in-kind supplies valued at 520,000 Sudanese pounds per household.
Regarding the health situation, the source confirmed the presence of two national organizations working to provide basic healthcare, including vaccinations and necessary medicines for the population.
Sheikh Adam Mohammedin Yahya told Darfur 24 that the Tabara area and surrounding villages are home to more than 10,000 families who have returned from the Rwanda camp in Tawila, and the Abu Shouk, Abuja, and Zamzam camps in El Fasher. He pointed out that the returnees face significant challenges in restoring their normal lives, especially in light of the delay in humanitarian organizations’ response to their urgent needs.
