Al-Rahad, July 5(Darfur 24)

Sources revealed to Darfur 24 on Saturday that a female pharmacist was subjected to torture in a detention center in the city of Al-Rahad, North Kordofan State.

The sources stated that the General Intelligence Service (GIS)arrested pharmacist Hekma Mahmoud Sardar on June 16 from her pharmacy located in the Al-Rahad Grand Market.

They indicated that the arrest was carried out without a judicial order or official direction from the prosecution. Hekma was taken to an unknown location, before it later became clear that she was being held by the GIS on suspicion of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The sources stated that the pharmacist was subjected to torture during the first days of her detention, raising concerns among her family and several activists in the local community, especially since she was not brought before a court or afforded her basic legal rights.

Darfur 24 was unable to obtain immediate comment from GIS.

The parties to the conflict have arrested hundreds of civilians on the pretext of collaborating or communicating with the other side, while authorities in areas controlled by the army continue to bring some detainees before the courts after completing their investigations.
