Al-Obeid, July 6(Darfur 24)

The Joint Security Cell in the city of Al-Obeid, North Kordofan State, arrested four academics on Saturday, on charges of supporting and collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces RSF.

Sources told Darfur 24 that “the security cell arrested Professor Abu Obeida, Dr. Omar Al-Basha, Dr. Khalida Obeidallah, and a fourth doctor.”

They indicated that Professor Abu Obeida was arrested inside the Kordofan Academy, while Dr. Omar Al-Basha was arrested on Al-Dakatra Street in the city center, and Dr. Khalida Obeidallah was arrested at an unspecified location.

The sources confirmed that the security authorities did not provide a precise explanation for the apprehension, but claimed that the detained academics were collaborating with the RSF.

Security authorities in the city of Al-Obeid, which is under the control of the Sudanese army , are arresting dozens of people fleeing the military conflict in areas of South Kordofan, particularly the town of Al-Dabaibat, which has recently witnessed violent battles the Sudanese army and RSF.

One of the displaced persons who were arrested told Darfur 24 that the security cell in Al-Obeid, which consists of members of the security services, the police, the joint forces, and military intelligence, carries out daily arrest campaigns targeting especially from the city of Debaibat and the Al-Qouz locality.
