Nuhood, July 24(Darfur24)
The University of West Kordofan, based in the city of Nuhood, has suspended the salaries of a number of professors and staff without providing any explanation.
The suspension decision, issued by the university’s vice chancellor , Professor Sayed Ali, on July 12, includes: Professor Khalil Abdullah from the College of Mass Communication; Dr. Mohamed Mubarak Bello from the College of Education; Professor Abu Bakr Al-Baqlani from the College of Administrative Sciences; Dr. Haider Abu Al-Qasim from the College of Sharia; Professor Hisham Nasser and Dr. Moaz Al-Amin, both from the College of Education; in addition to a number of employees from various colleges of the university.
A university source told Darfur 24 that the letter did not directly explain the reasons for the suspension, but it is implied that it was politically motivated, given that most of those affected by the suspension decision belong to the Professors’ Association.
The Professors’ Association, a protest movement, considers the continuation of the war unacceptable and calls for its immediate cessation in pursuit of a just and sustainable peace.
The University of West Kordofan was established in 1997 through local efforts by the region’s residents, with state support as part of the higher education policy launched by the National Salvation Revolution led by former President Omar al-Bashir.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF )took control of the city of Nuhood in West Kordofan State on May 1, following the withdrawal of the Sudanese army towards the city of El Obeid.
