New York , August 3(Darfur24)
The United Nations Security Council will hold closed consultations on Sudan on Monday.
Denmark and the United Kingdom, the penholder on the Sudan file, requested the meeting to review the latest humanitarian and political developments, particularly in light of the recent escalation of violence in North Darfur and Kordofan.
An official from the Department of Political and Executive Affairs is expected to provide a briefing.
Several areas in North Kordofan, including Umm Sayala and Umm Samima, witnessed fierce fighting between the conflicting parties over the past week, before the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were able to seize control of the two towns.
Press reports indicate that the RSF has launched large-scale attacks on villages in North and West Kordofan over the past period.
The RSF has escalated its ongoing attack on El Fasher, North Darfur, since May 2024, while the city suffers from a widespread hunger crisis due to the siege imposed on it.
