El Fasher, September 2(Darfur 24)

At least 27 civilians were killed and more than 70 others were injured on Monday as the Sudanese army SAF and the Rapid Support Forces RSF renewed fighting in El Fasher, WesternSudan.

Clashes resumed on Monday after SAF attacked RSF positions in the Awlad al-Reef, al-Wadi, and Tambasi neighborhoods south of the city.

Eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that the city had witnessed heavy artillery shelling since the morning hours, followed by clashes on the northeastern axis, resulting in dozens of civilian casualties.

Mohammed Abdel Rahim, a community leader in the western sector of El Fasher, reported that indiscriminate artillery shelling of residential neighborhoods and the Naivasha camp market, along with suicide drones around the Saudi Hospital, killed at least 27 civilians. More than 70 others were injured, some of whom succumbed to their wounds on Tuesday morning.

A health source at the Saudi Hospital confirmed to Darfur 24 that they had received more than 100 wounded, some of them critically, amid a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies, as well as a lack of blood and medical staff. He warned of a worsening situation for the injured.

Darfur 24 monitored dozens of bodies still lying in the Naivasha camp market and the surrounding areas as of Tuesday morning, forcing shopkeepers and residents to return to their homes.

Daoud Adam Issa, a citizen working in the brick industry at the Abu Shouk cemetery in Hilla, revealed that the cemeteries were completely full, forcing them to encroach on the roads surrounding the cemeteries.

Issa attributed the cause to the high number of victims from recent artillery shelling and clashes in the city, as well as the fact that all of the city’s cemeteries are out of service.
