Kazgil, September 8(Darfur 24)

The Commander of the 36th Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Group, Makan al-Sadig, was killed on Monday during fierce clashes in the village of Kazgil, North Kordofan State.

Kazgil and al-Riyash, located south of El Obeid, witnessed heavy fighting between the Sudanese army and RSF on Sunday and Monday, amid conflicting reports over who controlled the area.

Military sources said the army recaptured Kazgil and al-Riyash after hours of fighting. Videos shared on social media showed soldiers celebrating with residents, which appeared to confirm the army’s control.

At dawn on Monday, the RSF launched a large-scale attack around 3:00 a.m. on army positions in Kazgil and al-Riyash in an attempt to regain territory. RSF fighters posted videos claiming to have captured a Sudanese army major and retaken Kazgil, though Darfur 24 could not independently verify the claim.

Conversely, videos shared by army soldiers showed forces reportedly repelling the RSF attack, inflicting casualties, and destroying three combat vehicles. This claim could also not be independently verified by Darfur 24.

According to army sources, the RSF attacked Kazgil from two directions at 3:00 a.m., but the army pushed them back to Shoshayya, a town connecting South and West Kordofan.

While both sides claimed control of Kazgil, the actual situation on the ground remains unclear.

During a recent meeting in El Obeid, Sovereignty Council member and Deputy Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Shams El Din Kabbashi, emphasized the need to lift the siege of El Fasher and retake all areas in Darfur, stating that orders have been issued for army forces to move.
