Mellit, September (Darfur24)

At least four civilians were killed and several others injured Friday when a drone strike hit a popular restaurant in the main market of Mellit, 65 kilometers north of El Fasher, eyewitnesses and medical sources told Darfur24.

A doctor at Mellit Rural Hospital said the facility received the bodies of four victims along with several wounded.

Fadl al-Mawla al-Sayyid Fadl al-Mawla, an eyewitness, told Darfur24 that a drone, believed to belong to the Sudanese army, targeted the restaurant, killing and injuring more than ten people. He added that a car parked nearby was also set ablaze in the attack.

The strike follows a similar incident earlier this month in Kabkabiya, where a drone attack on a bus station left over 13 people dead and five injured.

Mellit has been under the control of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2024 after clashes with a joint force allied with the Sudanese army ended in the latter’s withdrawal.

For months, several cities across Darfur have been subjected to repeated drone attacks believed to be carried out by the military, resulting in mounting civilian casualties and property damage. Recent strikes in Nyala also left multiple dead and wounded.
