El Obeid, September 26 (Darfur24)
Dozens of families fleeing rural Nahud in West Kordofan State have arrived in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, amid worsening humanitarian conditions, severe food shortages, and a lack of drinking water.
Residents said the situation in Nahud has deteriorated sharply since the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized control of the city in early May. The collapse of security forced many to take refuge in surrounding villages, but the absence of basic services and persistent insecurity compelled them to move further east and north.
New arrivals in El Obeid told Darfur24 they fled due to soaring food prices, scarcity of essential goods, and acute water shortages in rural Nahud, particularly in the west and south.
Siddiq Hamed, a resident, described conditions as extremely dire, noting that a barrel of water now costs 15,000 Sudanese pounds, while a single jerrycan is priced at 1,000. He added that rampant thefts by unidentified armed groups have further endangered civilians, pushing many families to flee toward El Obeid and as far north as Dabba.
