Kadugli, December 13 (Darfur24)
The Sudanese army on Saturday accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of launching a drone attack on the United Nations headquarters in Kadugli, South Kordofan, killing six Bangladeshi peacekeepers and wounding seven others. The RSF denied responsibility.
In a statement, the army said the strike targeted the UN mission compound and the Bangladeshi battalion of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), with three missiles fired from a drone. The attack reportedly set ablaze a UN warehouse.
The army described the incident as a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN resolutions protecting peacekeeping personnel and facilities.
The RSF rejected the accusations, denying any role in the attack.
Following the incident, the UN Department of Safety and Security activated emergency measures, advised staff to avoid the area, and recommended the temporary relocation of several UN personnel and their families while reviewing non-essential deployments in Kadugli.
