Nyala, December 18 (Darfur24)

South Darfur’s Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that six new cases of dengue fever have been confirmed in Nyala, out of 10 suspected cases reported during the latest surveillance period.

According to a ministry report, the total number of dengue cases has risen to 335. The six new infections were recorded in the Sakli neighborhood of Nyala South locality.

The Health Emergency and Epidemic Control Department said reported cases include 235 infections in Nyala North locality, 98 cases in Nyala municipality, and one case each in Al-Malam and Adal Fursan localities.

The Emergency Management Department said investigation and active case-finding activities are being carried out by response teams with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). In contrast, vector control efforts are supported by the Alight organization.

Health authorities in Nyala first announced dengue fever cases—caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito—at the end of October. The state Ministry of Health has since launched awareness campaigns in the most affected neighborhoods across the city.
