Sudan Airways Flight Lands at Khartoum Airport
Khartoum , February 1(Darfur24)A Sudan Airways plane landed at Khartoum International Airport on Saturday, marking the first flight since the outbreak of war.
The airline had announced the flight from Port Sudan to Khartoum at a discounted price of approximately 200,000 Sudanese pounds (US$50).
The Sudan News Agency reported that this flight comes as part of Sudan Airways’ commitment to its national role in supporting air transport, enhancing connectivity between Sudanese cities, and connecting citizens, thus contributing to alleviating the travel difficulties they have faced recently.
The flight was considered a significant milestone in the resumption of air travel to Khartoum Airport and an indication of the beginning of a new phase of recovery, stability, and the gradual return of life to the capital.
Authorities had carried out maintenance work at Khartoum Airport after its facilities and some aircraft were damaged during the conflict. They decided to reopen it last October, but it was soon targeted by drone attacks attributed to the Rapid Support Forces. Later, authorities carried out a second phase of rehabilitation work at the airport, which recently received a special flight.
Sudan Airways operates one aircraft, which resumed flights to Egypt and Jeddah on January 20th, following months of maintenance.
