February 22, 2020 (Khartoum) Governmental sources told  Darfur 24 that Ali Kushayb ,  who is wanted by the  International Criminal Court ICC , had fled to Central  African Republic.

The Militia leader disappeared,  after the transitional government and the Revolutionary Front announced their agreement to hand over ICC indictees  to the Hague based court.

In 2008, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrants  against 51 Sudanese government leaders and warlords in Darfur on war crimes and genocide charges.

According to the government source,  Ali Kushayib had  crossed the border to Central Africa Republic , on  two four-wheel-drive cars, and then a number of  fuel-laden cars joined him, in addition to dozens of gunmen riding motorcycles from his tribesmen.

However, the source expressed  concern, that Kushayb might rebel  against the current government.

While a youth activist from the city of Umm Dafuq – preferring to withhold his name – said that Kushayb was present during the past weeks with nomads in the northwestern vicinity of  Umm Dafuq, an area with no communication network.

“He  used to visit the market of the city of Umm Dafuq for more than a week , then he completely disappeared last week” added the activist.

Kushayb is facing  charges of killing hundreds of citizens in the areas of Shataya and Kailek at the beginning of the war in Darfur in 2003, 2004 , in addition to leading role in the   intercommunal clash between Salamat and Taiysha tribes in  Raheid al-Birdi locality  in 2013 , which resulted in  complete displacement of the people of  Salamat tribe.

Addressing a group of his tribesmen and supporters  in the border town of Umm Dukhun, on the Sudanese Chadian  boarder, that he  had Committed  murders using internationally prohibited weapons.

“Now I have a weapon, if I fire a single bullet of it, no one of you will remain a life” Ali Kushayib boasted before his tribesmen.
