April 16, 2020 (Zalengei) Leaders of the displaced people in the camps of Zalingei,  in central Darfur, have demanded halt of land  registeration in  Hilla Jedo area, that falls under the jursdiction of Abtta administrative unit in Zalingei locality,  they also rejected the governor’s decision to register all lands in the state.

Governor of Central Darfur, Major General Najmuddin Karar, had  issued a decision ten days ago calling for  registeration of illegal  lands in the state, however,  he formed a committee tasked with  listing and  registering all lands in the state, as well as  interviewing individuals who have land problems  so as to find  settlement to their land issues.

Al-Shafei Abdul Karim, Deputy General Coordinator of the IDPs and Refugee told  Darfur 24,  that  IDPs are demanding  the state government  to postpone the decision of land  registration for the time being .

” We urge the government to  suspend the land registration process  currently  taking place  in the Hilla Jedo area  and  withdraw the land documents that were given  to people who were not indigenous to the area” Added Al-Shafei Abdul Karim.

It’s  worth noting that Hilla Gedo is considered a sacred area for the Fur tribe ,because of the presence of the largest graves of clerics in it, and it was the only one where rituals were practiced by local clerics known as  Foggara
