November 9, 2020 (Jebel Mara- Nyala) Intermittent fighting in the Sabi area in East Jebel Marra locality in South Darfur state, between the Sudan Liberation Movement headed by Abdel Wahid Muhammad Nur and a splinter faction has forced hundreds of residents to flee to the towns of Darbat and Suni.

The movement’s spokesman, Muhammad Abd al-Rahman al-Nayer, accused the government of embracing the splinter faction and providing them with the equipment to carry out attacks on the movement’s territories.

Al-Nayer told Darfur 24 that the movement had  monitored government agents’ communications with the dissidents and sent them shipments of weapons and ammunition from Nyala.   Meanwhile, the governor of South Darfur State, Musa Mahdi, denied the government’s involvement in the ongoing fighting between the movement and its dissidents.

“What is happening is an internal matter in the movement and we are not part of it”. Mahadi told Darfur24.  However, neither the movement nor the splinter faction have reported loss of life or injuries.
