The Humanitarian Aid Commissioner in South Darfur state, Karamuddin Adam Karam, said that the commission had contacted UN organizations working in the state to provide urgent relief aid to the people fleeing fighting Jebel Marra.

Recently, fighting broke out in Jebel Marra  between Abdul Wahid Nur Movement and  militants , that the rebel movement says they are affiliated with   Government forces.

Speaking on Nyala radio Wednesday, Karam said that HAC had contacted the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the state OCHA and the offices of the United Nations agencies operating in the state, in order to provide urgent assistance to the displaced persons fleeing the recent fighting in Jebel marra

The Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid Mohamed Nour,   accuses the Sudanese government of sending militias to fight  the non-signatory  movement  in its stronghold in  Jebel Marra.

Karam El-Din revealed that there is coordination between his commission and the Humanitarian Aid Commission in North Darfur to assist IDPs fleeeing the fighting , as the affected areas overlap between the two states, warning that the number of displaced people is not known yet, but they are now being counted.
