The governor of south Darfur State Musa Mahdi, has declared a state of emergency and imposed curfew in Nyala the capital of South Darfur State.

The declaration of the state of emergency   came against the background of the protests that took place in the city of Nyala on  Tuesday, which led to violent confrontations between  police and the protesters, resulting in the injury of about 10 policemen and a number of protesters.

However, police used tear gas and live ammunition
n to disperse the demonstrators, while the demonstrators threw stones at the police forces and managed to set one of the police cars on fire.

The Governor’s Information Office said the state of emergency and the curfew will take effect today, Tuesday, 6 pm, and will continue for 48 hours.
