Arab and Masalit tribes in the city of El-Geneina , the capital of West Darfur State,  signed on Saturday an agreement to end  hostilities between them.

The two parties have fought fierce battles, the last of which was last January where nearly 200 people from both sides were killed.

The signing ceremony of the agreement was witnessed by deputy Commander of the Rapid Support Forces RSF, Lieutenant General Abdul Rahim Dagalo, while the governor of West Darfur, Mohamed Abdallah Al-Duma declined to attend

. Dagalo said that the agreement is the culmination of the efforts made by the federal delegation headed by a member of the Sovereignty Council, Mohamed El Faki, who spent about a week to defuse the crisis between the two parties to the conflict in West Darfur.

Addressing  participants,  Al-Farsha Saleh Arbab, a representative of the Masalit tribe, affirmed the tribe’s commitment to the agreement to stop hostilities, calling for government to impose rule of law and end  impunity.

For his part, Prince Hafez Taj al-Din, the representative of the Arab tribes, stressed not to confuse social and political issues, indicating that the West Darfur society is a cohesive and interconnected society, and that criminals and promoters of sedition do not want stability for the people of El Geneina, calling for the necessity of  dealing with warmongers according to the law.
