Khartoum, March 15(Darfur24) A University student revealed  that she was subjected to a gang rape by security forces wearing the uniform of the Central Reserve Police forces under the Musalmiya bridge on Monday evening.

The student, who hails from the state of South Sudan, told the newspaper “Slanenews” that at about seven o’clock on Monday evening, she was on board a public transport bus , and when she approached the bottom of the Muslim Bridge, tear gas was fired by a police force stationed at the place .

She added, “We, the passengers, were surprised by the police, who were seizing our property and then asking everyone to escape. We were two girls on the bus, so the first ran away, but I could not. So the police attacked me and took my phone and bag

She continued, “In a strange moment, one of the policemen grabbed me by force and knocked me to the ground and assaulted me after stripping me of my pants… He did not heed my pleas and pleas, then another came and did the same thing despite my screaming, and then three others came and did the same.”

The 19-year-old university student, battling her tears, explained, “The police quickly withdrew after a group of young men came on their way… They covered me and took me near the People’s Hospital and sat me near a tea seller, who tried to calm me down and called my brother through the phone of a passerby. Who came to the place about half an hour later, and when he learned what had happened, he broke down.”

The testimonies and statements of eyewitnesses and residents of the building in which the incident took place confirmed the validity of the student’s story, and some of them said that they witnessed the rape, but they were unable to do anything because they feared that they would be exposed to problems by the police.

A medical source told Darfur 24 that a group of doctors who were inside a housing designated for them, “Miz,” rushed to the rescue of the girl after hearing hysterical screams, and they were able to snatch her from the assailant group and clash with them.

He pointed out that some doctors transferred the unconscious girl to the People’s Hospital and followed up her health condition until the early hours of Tuesday morning. The rape incident occurred moments after the police dispersed thousands of protesters who were on their way to the Presidential Palace, which is located a short distance from the place.

Human rights organizations report that there have been cases of rape among female demonstrators by the security forces, especially in the vicinity of the Republican Palace, after dark.
