El-Fashir , July 26( Darfur24) The North Darfur Communist Party has boycotted  the consultative meeting of the Permanent Ceasefire Commission  in Darfur with representatives of civil society to be held today, Tuesday, at Crimson Hotel in El Fasher, the state capital.

The Communist Party said in a statement seen by Darfur 24 that it boycotted the meeting because of the committee’s reliance on the fragile ground of the ceasefire, which is the Juba Agreement, which the party believes is not serious about achieving a lasting and real peace.

The Communist Party added that the standards used by the Unitams mission to deal with problems do not provide solutions that touch the roots of the problem, but rather waste time and effort in overcoming the problems and do not come directly to solutions based on international conventions.

The statement said that against the background of these reasons, the party renews its apology for participating in this meeting, stressing that it sits with an open horizon with everyone who wants to contribute to solutions to the Sudanese scene, based on a sound platform.

The Permanent Ceasefire Commission  in Darfur distributed an invitation to civil society representatives to attend a consultative meeting to explain the committee’s mandate, activities and work developments, and to listen to the participants’ priorities and concerns.

The commission, which was formed in September 2121, is responsible for planning, managing, monitoring, verifying, and supervising the permanent ceasefire in Darfur.

In the invitation letter which was  seen by Darfur24, the commission stated that the consultative meeting is part of the efforts made to inform stakeholders of the ongoing efforts made by UNITAMS to activate the Permanent Ceasefire Commission, and to exchange views on the role of civil society actors in relation to the work of the commission.
