El Geneina, October 31 (Darfur24) On Tuesday, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) issued statement denying any intentions for war in the city of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, indicating that there were other solutions that they had not disclosed.
RSF added: We reassure the people of West Darfur state not to believe the rumours, as until this moment there are no intentions of war against the army in the 15th Infantry Division.
According to RSF, “There are other solutions that will spare the people of El Geneina from another experience of war,” but the statement did not disclose these solutions, and hinted at negotiations perhaps between the two parties in the coming hours.
Information spread about an expected attack by the Rapid Support Forces on the headquarters of the 15th Infantry Division, El Geneina, after they took control of the 21st Zalingei Division.
Shop owners in El Geneina Market closed their shops and cars began carrying goods from the market to homes.
Meanwhile, the headquarters of the West Darfur state government witnessed constant movement, and the governor, Tijjani Al-Tahir Karshoum, remained in continuous meetings with the civil administrations and the El Geneina People’s Initiative in an attempt to avoid confrontation.
