El Geneina , 2 November (Darfur 24) On Wednesday, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized the army garrison in the town of Kerenik, 80 kilometers east of the city of El Geneina, the provincial capital of West Darfur state.
Local sources in Kerenik told Darfur 24 that RSF fighters supported by gunmen using motorcycles attacked on Tuesday ,the army garrison in the town of Kerenak and took control of it after reports circulated about the army’s preparations in “Krenek” to arrive at the command of the 15th Infantry Division of El Geneina, which is being besieged by the Rapid Support Forces.
Kerenik is one of the important cities that was controlled by the army forces, and the governor of West Darfur, Tijjani Al-Tahir Karshoum, visited it last week.
The Rapid Support Forces intensified their military operations in the Darfur region in an attempt to tighten control over it after they seized Nyala army headquarters and Zalingei in the south and center, and continue their attempts to control the command of the 15th Infantry Division, El Geneina.
