Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, confirmed that he is paying special attention to the Sudanese issue, pledging to intensify regional and international communication to accelerate efforts to reach a peaceful solution in Sudan.

Faki’s speech came during a meeting he held with the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (CCDF) headed by Abdullah Hamdok, on Monday evening in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to discuss the war crisis in Sudan and African efforts to end the Sudanese crisis.

CCDF coordination delegation expressed its appreciation for the role of the African Union in supporting the aspirations of the Sudanese people and their strong positions in this context, according to the statement.

The statement stressed the importance of tight coordination between all regional and international initiatives and the important role of our continental organization, noting the enormity of the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan and the necessity of raising the regional and international response to address the urgent needs of millions of Sudanese who were affected by the April 15 war.

He stated that the Chairman of the African Union Commission confirmed that he is paying special attention to the Sudanese issue, and that he will intensify regional and international communication to accelerate efforts to reach a peaceful solution in Sudan, stressing the importance of the civil role in ending the war and silencing the sound of guns in Sudan.

CCDF delegation, headed by former Sudanese prime minister Abdullah Hamdok, held a series of meetings with international and regional officials on the sidelines of the African Summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

In this regard, Hamdok met with the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, and discussed with him the catastrophic humanitarian conditions resulting from the war and its increasing pace. Taqadum called for redoubling international efforts to provide relief and ensure its delivery without obstruction.

Hamdok and a delegation from the Coordination Committee also met with the Executive Secretary of IGAD, to discuss developments in the situation in Sudan and the implementation of the outcomes of the recent IGAD summit held in Uganda.

Also, last Sunday, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, Hamdok held discussions with Kenyan President William Ruto, about African efforts to stop the war and address the political crisis in Sudan.
